National Data Centre Almost Complete: Mthuli Ncube

During the 2020 National budget speech given by Mthuli Ncube earlier today, the Finance Minister gave an update on the National Data Centre. According to the Minister, the project is nearing completion. Judging from the Minister’s speech, it seems the data centre will be the precursor to many of the eGovernance initiatives that the government has promised for so long.

President Commissions Telone Fibre Optic Project

TelOne has set itself as the Carrier of Carriers following the commissioning of the company’s National Backbone fibre link by the President of the Republic Of Zimbabwe Cde E.D. Mnangagwa on Wednesday 13 March 2019. The TelOne Beitbridge-Masvingo-Harare Optic Fibre Link is a sub-project under the National Broadband Project which was funded through the China Exim Bank $98 million loan facility implemented by Huawei from China and TelOne engineers who completed the project in 18 months.

President to commission Beitbridge optic fibre project

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa will tomorrow commission the multi-million dollar optic fibre link in Beitbridge, which connects the border town with South Africa and the rest of the country via Bulawayo and Masvingo and Harare. The link was constructed by TelOne with the aid of a Chinese loan to expand national broadband network and to enhance efficient communication countrywide. The investment would make Zimbabwe an Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub for Southern Africa. 

The fibre optic link is a step in the right direction for Government roll out of e-services for its departments and Ministries. It will ensure connectivity between the country’s border towns as well as enhance e-Government, which is currently being implemented at various levels.
