Cabinet noted that works on the Beitbridge-Harare Highway is facilitating the smooth flow of traffic causing congestion at the Mbudzi Roundabout. Accordingly, Cabinet has approved the immediate construction of the Mbudzi Traffic Interchange in Harare.

The Government of Zimbabwe announced the commencement ofwork on the Mbudzi flyover in Harare at the intersection of Chitungwiza, High Glen and Simon Mazorodze roads.The roads feed traffic from surburbs in the western side of Chitungwiza and Harare's southern surburbs, as well as the regional and international traffic along the Harare-Masvingo highway.

Zimbabwe has signed five contracts with local firms for the rehabilitation of Harare – Beitbridge Highway after some international companies previously given the billion-dollar contract before, demonstrated incapacity to mobilise funding, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Joel Matiza has said.

President Mnangagwa has officially launched the commencement of works on the first 6,5km of a 21km stretch along Makuti-Chirundu Road linking the country to Sadc, Comesa and East African states.The project is being financed through a US$21 million grant from Japan and will be implemented with the support of Japanese engineers and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development.

The Zimbabwe government has completed the selection process of five contractors to undertake the Harare-Chirundu highway rehabilitation and its subsequent dualisation.

Treasury has availed $18,7 million to kick-start the surfacing of three major roads in Matabeleland South Province following concerns over the deplorable state of some of the routes in the area. The project is aimed at resurfacing roads that link the provincial capital Gwanda to the rest of the province. The road network will span Gwanda, Matobo and Plumtree, Gwanda-Maphisa and Maphisa-Mpoengs. The Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs, Cde Abedinico Ncube, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in implementation of Government’s initiative to surface roads in the province.
