progress as follows:
• 4km sewer network rehabilitation in Chegutu High Density suburb in 
Chegutu, Mashonaland West Province is 95% complete;
• rehabilitation of 4km of water network in Pfupajena high density 
suburb in Chegutu, Mashonaland West Province is 90% complete.

President has commissioned three solar-powered community boreholes in Glenview 3, Harare under the Presidential Borehole Scheme. Each borehole feeds water directly into 100 households as well as several outside points.

Material for the pipeline to bring water from the lake to Bulawayo has arrived in the country and is being placed at strategic points for connection. The laying of 245km pipeline is expected to be completed by October 2022.

Gwayi-Shangani Pipeline Project on Course

The Gwai-Shangani water project, which is projected to alter Bulawayo's water situation, is progressing well, according to President Mnangagwa, with construction on the pipeline having begun. The construction of a 270-kilometer pipeline to bring ample water to Bulawayo has begun. The pipeline, once completed, will help to green various agricultural projects along the route.

Following government intervention, service delivery in urban areas has improved drastically with residents now enjoying access to water while roads are being rehabilitated. The ongoing Presidential Borehole drilling has drilled boreholes in Harare's suburbs of Epworth, Glen Norah, and Mabvuku and the dormitory town Chitungwiza. This initiative is set as a temporary measure for the province as works on the multi-million dollar Kunzvi Dam which is expected to end the capital's water challenges end.


Devolution delight for Chinhoyi

The devolution monies have enabled Chinhoyi Municipality to get heavy-duty machinery, and a fire tender vehicle is due to arrive soon. As the town grows, the municipality purchased a tractor loader backhoe (TLB), which is intended to relieve strain on the excavation of sewage and water trenches, as well as land clearing. Mr. Tichaona Mlauzi, a representative for the council, claimed the equipment cost approximately US$87,000.

Cabinet's decision to transfer health workers from the Chitungwiza and Harare Municipalities’ payrolls to the Government payroll has started, with 60 out of the 65 nursing staff in Chitungwiza having been transferred. Measures are being put in place for the City of Harare to expedite the implementation of the Cabinet decision of transferring 368 health professionals. Four new boreholes were drilled, while 77 others were rehabilitated and eighty-four hand washing facilities were commissioned at various public places. Harare Metropolitan’s water production is averaging 400ML/day, against demand of 1200ML/day, while Bulawayo City’s water production remains at 153.7ML/day, against a demand of 155ML/day.

Upgrading of water and sanitation facilities at the Flea Market by the Lupane Local Board is 97% complete and is expected to meet the scheduled date. Upgrading of 3.6 km of sewer Trunk Mains in Chegutu is at 92% completion. The Ruwa Local Board installed 3 Solar Powered boreholes. Disbursement of US$9,3 million for resolution of portable water shortage problems in Harare

Cabinet has directed Treasury to release US$9,3 million for urgent works at Manyame and Warren Control Pump stations that should be completed in two months to alleviate potable water shortages in Harare and its surrounding towns.

This will enable the City of Harare to migrate from drawing water from the highly polluted Lake Chivero to Lake Manyame.

Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube has released $37,4 million to the City of Harare in an effort to address the water challenges which has seen residents going for days without the precious liquid. Ncube said part of the funds will be in foreign currency and will work towards improving water access and waste water treatment in the short-term. “The City of Harare is facing a number of challenges which have resulted in failure to resolve the water and sanitation under-provision within the city. This has contributed to the decline in health status of residents,” he said.

Advisory board for Harare

Government has appointed an advisory board for Harare which will assist with ideas on voluntary basis, in a move expected to improve service delivery and instil confidence among residents. The 19-member board would advise on various issues, including water and sanitation, as well as infrastructural development in the capital.
