The Government and the Arab Republic of Egypt have formed a partnership aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and maximizing shared benefits in the pharmaceuticals, biological products, and medical devices sectors.

Three countries revive Mining Deal. Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa on Saturday signed a communique on the revitalisation of the Pan African Mineral Development Company (PAMDC) in Victoria Falls. The Zambian Minister said the communique that they signed was both a milestone and achievement as well as a new lease of life into PAMDC.

3 MOUs Signed with the UAE Government

Cabinet is pleased to report that the Zimbabwe National Day was held on 14th March 2022 and was attended by the hierarchy of the UAE Government. The following Memoranda of Understanding were signed:
1.   ARDA signed a US$250 million Joint Venture Agreement with the NV Group of India to establish a brewery in Masvingo;
2.   Memorandum between the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries Water, and Rural Development and the Private Office of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al-Qassimi; and
3.   The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) signed an Agreement with DNATA Travel on marketing. Various other agreements such as the one with Sky Power for the establishment of a 500 MW solar energy plant are at an advanced stage of completion.

7 MOUs Signed for Economic Cooperation

The nation is informed that His Excellency the President’s visit to Kenya was preceded by the 3rd Session on Joint Permanent Commission Cooperation between Zimbabwe and Kenya. Cabinet reports that the State Visit was highly successful as 7MOUs were signed with a view to furthering economic cooperation. The signed MOUs are as follows :
1. Memorandum of Understanding on Political and Diplomatic Consultation;

2. Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Women Empowerment and Community Development;

3. Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Youth Affairs;

4. Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Cooperatives;

5. Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of Tourism and Wildlife Management;

6. Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Sport and Recreation; and

7. Memorandum of Understanding regarding Cooperation and Assistance in the field of Civil Aircraft Accidents and Serious Incidents Investigation."

5 New MOUs Concluded and Signed

'The Republic of Zimbabwe deposits the instrument of ratification of the African Medicines Agency (AMA)

Zimbabwe has deposited the African Medicines Agency's ratification instrument (AMA). On behalf of the African Union Commission, Mr. Sabelo Mbokazi, Head of Labor, Employment, and Migration at the Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development (HHS) Directorate, received the instrument from the Zimbabwe delegation. The Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Ethiopia and the African Union, H.E. Taonga Mushayavanhu, stated at the formal deposit that the deposit will increase the number of deposits necessary to fulfill the projected objective of 15 deposits for the Treaty to enter into effect. "The Republic of Zimbabwe looks forward to the Agency's operationalization and to contributing to the Agency's essential role in the standardization and regulation of medicines and medical goods in Africa." Ambassador said.

Zim, UK step up re-engagement

Zimbabwe and Britain have begun laying the ground for formal political dialogue to normalise relations, it has been learnt. Despite domesticating the European Union stance on Zimbabwe on February 20 this year — following its departure from the bloc on January 30 — Britain has reportedly been making high-level overtures designed to replicate the Zim-EU dialogue platform at a “more individual country” level.

Second session of the Zimbabwe-European Union (EU) dialogue

The second session of the Zimbabwe-European Union (EU) dialogue was held in Harare, with the European Union bloc pledging to consider an increased financial assistance to Zimbabwe next year in light of reforms being implemented by the Zimbabwean Government. The agenda for the dialogue included issues around economic development, trade and investment, human rights and democratisation, rule of law and good governance, development cooperation, climate change and humanitarian impact and global and regional ooperation. 

At the meeting Zimbabwe and the EU discussed the illegal sanctions that have been imposed on the country, political reforms and economic reforms. The meeting was a follow up to the first formal dialogue meeting that was held at officials’ level in June 2019 which was led by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Secretary, Ambassador James Manzou.

Zim, EU in historic talks

Zimbabwe and the European Union (EU) yesterday launched a formal dialogue process based on Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement which governs relations between member states of the African-Carribean-Pacific regions and the EU. The development is a major realisation of President Mnangagwa’s re-engagement policy which seeks to reintegrate Zimbabwe into the global family of nations.

Attendance of the 25th Conference of Parties (COP 25) in Madrid, Spain, from 2 to 13 December 2019.

Cabinet received a report on the 25th Conference of Parties (COP 25) which the Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry attended in Madrid, Spain, from 2 to 13 December 2019. The parties agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement through their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) which are to be achieved by 2030. Zimbabwe aims to reduce emissions by 33 percent per capita in the energy sector by 2030.

Hosting of the 2020 African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD 6)

The Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare updated Cabinet on the 2020 African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD 6) which Zimbabwe had successfully hosted in Victoria Falls from 24 to 27 February, 2020. The Forum ran under the theme “2020- 2030: A Decade to Deliver a Transformed and Prosperous Africa through the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063”.

Cabinet received an update from the Minister of Finance and Economic Development on Zimbabwe’s participation at the 50th edition of the World Economic Forum (WEF) which was held in Davos, Switzerland, from 20th to 24th January, 2020. The Forum was held under the theme “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”. World leaders; government officials, business leaders, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), religious leaders and academics discussed emerging socio-economic challenges facing humanity.

The Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, who led a Government delegation to the 18th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 25 to 26 October 2019 briefed Cabinet on proceedings and outcome of the summit. Cabinet noted the report with satisfaction amid indications that several countries spoke very strongly in solidarity with Zimbabwe and called for the removal of the sanctions that are stifling the country’s economic development.

EPA with Britain ratified as re-engagement continues to bear fruit

Zimbabwe has ratified the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Britain that allows Zimbabwean exporters access to UK markets free of tariffs and quotas and is expected to boost trade and investment between the two countries as Government’s re-engagement drive continues to bear fruit.
